The second of three Informed Citizen Akron deliberation events has concluded!
From August 11th-13th, citizens of Summit County/Akron Area joined together to explore how citizens and media can work together better, to create higher-quality information and meet the needs of the community.
As the members took the opportunity to share their take on the Citizens’ Jury process, some common themes emerged:
- It can be difficult to understand whether or not information is trustworthy, and whether the reader/consumer’s personal biases are impacting their understanding of the information in it
- Citizens need access to information that demonstrates, not just tells about, the personal qualities of a presidential candidate
- Media organizations that are under financial strain should identify their ‘niche’ and be careful not to spread themselves too thin
- Community members are capable of having thoughtful conversations with others and should practice civility in their interpersonal interactions, especially when it comes to political discussions
